As you already know summer is finally here and we need some cold snacks to cool us off. Lately I’ve been craving chilled fruits and veggies and my mouth waters just thinking of how I’ll be adding some lime juice, salt and chile powder on everything! Cucumbers, carrots, apples, watermelon and my favorite jicama. But today instead of cutting my jicama up into pieces, I’ll try it on a stick or how they’re known in Mexico, jicaletas.
Jicaletas are jicama slices on a skewer stick, covered in a sweet and spicy sauce called Chamoy and chile powder. Best of all is that jicamas are very economical, you can easily make 10 jicaletas for less than $5. Is it fruit or is it vegetable? Not sure, but what I do know is that it’s a perfectly delicious crunchy snack for summer.
- 1 Jicam fria / 1 chilled jicama
- Chamoy / Chamoy Liquid Chile
- Chile en polvo / Chile Powder like Tajin or Miguelito
- Limon (Opcional) / Lime (optional)
- Palillos de madera / Popsicle sticks
Now cover slices with some lime juice, chamoy and then add chile powder. Serve and enjoy this cool snack!
